Coseicure delivers for leading Tipperary dairy farmer and renowned Charolais breeder

PJ and Matt Ryan run a diverse and high-performing farming operation in Drom, Templemore, Co. Tipperary. Their enterprise includes a 170‑cow Holstein dairy herd, a tillage farm, a successful pedigree Charolais herd, and an agricultural contracting business. They supply milk to Centenary Co‑Op, and their Kilvilcorris Charolais herd is well known across Ireland, with several bulls standing in AI stations.
Farming a total of 520 acres, Matt manages the pedigree Charolais herd while both brothers work together on the wider operation. Breeding quality, performance, and champion-standard cattle is at the heart of their approach. Alongside the dairy cows, they also keep around 100 store cattle on the farm.
A few years ago, the Ryans faced significant herd health and fertility challenges. Fertility performance had declined, calves were weak at birth, calving dragged on for too long, and veterinary assistance was frequently required. Their farm vet advised taking blood samples for trace element analysis and assessing mineral levels in their grass silage.
The results highlighted the core issue: very low copper, selenium, and iodine levels, combined with high molybdenum, which interferes with copper absorption.
Determined to find the right solution, PJ began researching supplementation options. He consulted his vet, spoke with other farmers experiencing similar challenges, reviewed articles, and explored online resources. During this process, he was recommended the Coseicure cattle bolus from Bimeda. He also visited the Bimeda nutrition website to review product information, farmer testimonials, and administration technique videos.
After introducing the Coseicure bolus to the herd, the improvements were clear:
- Easier calvings and stronger, more vigorous calves
- Improved fertility, leading to a more compact calving period
- Higher milk yields and improved milk quality
- Reduced veterinary bills
- No more cows holding the cleanings
- Healthier, more vibrant coats — no more brown tinges
- Overall better thrive and condition across the herd
Encouraged by the results, the Ryans now plan to use the Coseicure calf bolus for their reared calves this summer.
PJ’s advice to other farmers facing similar issues is straightforward: Work with your vet, take blood and forage samples, and make informed decisions to get your herd back on track. For the Ryans, Coseicure has been a key part of that turnaround.
